RFID Source Tagging: How Indian Exporters Meet European Retailer Rules

posted on: 15 Oct, 2026 | 05:46:43 PM by Indian RFID

Source tagging means the RFID tag is applied and encoded where the product is made - in India - instead of in the retailer's distribution centre. European and Russian retailers prefer it because goods arrive store-ready. For Indian exporters it is now a key requirement to win and keep orders from large buyers.

The four steps of compliant source tagging

  1. Specification: chip family, inlay, tag type and placement as specified by the retailer.
  2. Encoding: unique EPC per item, usually GS1 SGTIN-96 derived from the item's GTIN plus a serial number.
  3. Verification: 100% of items read before packing and every carton read before dispatch.
  4. Reporting: an EPC / carton list sent to the buyer with the advance shipping notice.

Where exporters go wrong - and how Indian RFID helps

  • Duplicate or wrong serial numbers - our encoding software manages serial ranges per buyer and per factory.
  • Dead tags - inlays from qualified sources and read-verification at print time.
  • Missing items in cartons - tunnel readers compare the carton contents with the packing list automatically.
  • Too many vendors - Indian RFID supplies tags, printers, readers and software; Mindware supplies barcode labels and Mynds ribbons.

Buying houses, importers and exporters moving garments from India to Russia and Europe choose Indian RFID because we make source tagging predictable from the first sample to the thousandth shipment.
