Jaipur is known for coloured gemstones, silver jewellery, kundan and meenakari work, and a thriving trade that serves both domestic customers and international buyers. Showrooms and workshops in this trade share a common challenge: very large numbers of small, high-value pieces, many of which look alike. Counting them every evening is slow, and mistakes are costly. RFID offers a practical way to make the daily count fast and reliable.
In a typical showroom, staff count trays at opening and closing, often by piece count and sometimes by weight. Problems appear quickly:
Each piece carries a small RFID jewellery tag, usually hung by a thread or loop, linked in software to the item's details: design number, category, metal, gross and net weight, stone details and price. At closing, a staff member passes a handheld reader over each tray or counter. The software compares what it reads against what should be there and lists any missing items by tag number and description.
What used to be a long manual count becomes a short scan, and the result is a clear list of exceptions rather than "two pieces short".
Software can record which tray or counter each item belongs to, so staff know immediately where a missing item was last seen.
When pieces are taken out for customer approval, given to a broker, or sent for an exhibition, they can be scanned out and scanned back in. Outstanding items are always visible.
At the billing counter, reading the tag pulls item details automatically, reducing typing errors in weight and price.
RFID gates at the exit can alert staff if a tagged item passes without being billed.
For manufacturers and wholesalers supplying showrooms or exporting, RFID helps track goods from finishing to packing. Items can be scanned into parcels, and the packing list generated automatically, reducing disputes over what was sent.
A good jewellery RFID solution is more than tags. You need tags, a printer for tag printing and encoding, handheld readers, optionally a counter reader and gates, and software that fits how jewellers actually work. Indian RFID provides the complete set, and you can see examples on our case studies page.
